Ben Calingaert is a Partner at Sorren, based in Reno, Nevada, where he provides tax planning and compliance services for small and medium-sized businesses. He works primarily with clients in the construction, medical, and logistics industries, including custom home builders, commercial general contractors, specialty subcontractors, and physician practices. Serving businesses typically ranging from $5 million to $50 million in revenue, Ben focuses on developing long-term tax strategies that align with clients’ goals while helping minimize their tax liability over time.
Ben brings strong technical tax experience and a practical approach to helping clients navigate complex financial decisions. He has advised physician groups on compensation and dividend strategies, including implementing a structure for a 50-provider practice that generated significant tax savings for both the physicians and the practice. Ben also played an integral role in helping Northern Nevada businesses navigate COVID-era relief programs and regulations, including PPP, ERC, and the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant, helping secure more than $100 million for businesses in the community. Looking ahead, he works closely with clients to evaluate their five- and ten-year plans and prepare their tax and business structures for potential consolidation, M&A activity, and other changes within their industries.
Having grown up in Culver City, California, and Reno, Nevada, Ben remains active in his community as Treasurer and a Board Member of the Nevada Women’s Fund. Outside of work, he enjoys golf and running and has completed two marathons in under four hours. He also follows the Los Angeles Dodgers and University of Nevada athletics and has a personal goal of becoming a scratch golfer.
