Why Sorren Internships Become Lifelong Careers

At Sorren, we build our internship program to be more than just a temporary position—we design it as a launchpad for lasting careers. We’ve found that many of our most valued full-time team members started their journeys with us as interns. Their stories highlight what makes our company culture unique: meaningful mentorship, real-world experience, and a workplace where career growth and genuine connection thrive together.

Internships are a critical step in a professional journey, but they can often feel intimidating. We recognize that every intern arrives with a unique mix of ambition, curiosity, and a few nerves. As former intern Joshua Devin shared, “The funniest thing about being an intern is you expect to know things, but you really don’t. It’s a mix of familiar and unfamiliar things. And that was probably the biggest realization—that you don’t know anything.”

That feeling of uncertainty is where real growth begins. For Karsyn Gabbard, another former intern, this environment was a pleasant surprise. “I didn’t even know what to expect coming in because it was my first internship,” she said. “But I was surprised by how welcoming everybody was and how willing everybody was to teach me.” At Sorren, we meet that initial uncertainty with structured support and a culture of learning and mentorship.

Gaining Practical Skills and Professional Confidence

Our hands-on internship program gives you real-world experience from day one. We believe the best way to learn is by doing, so we immediately integrate interns into teams and assign them real client projects. This approach ensures they are not just observing from the sidelines but are actively contributing to meaningful work. This practical experience is crucial for building both technical skills and professional confidence.

Joshua reflected on how this environment helped him develop professionally. “One skill I gained during my internship was learning how to be flexible in tasks that are given to you,” he explained. “Being open-minded enough to take on a task you might not be comfortable with and doing your best to accomplish it.”

Karsyn’s experience was similar, as she noted a significant boost in her workplace confidence. “I learned confidence in the job and in the workplace,” she shared. “Coming in, not knowing much about how all of this worked, gave me confidence in knowing how to work in a professional environment.” This is the transformation we aim for—turning initial apprehension into a solid foundation of capability and confidence.

The Role of Mentorship and Vulnerability

One of the most valuable lessons our interns learn has less to do with accounting and more to do with the courage to ask for help. We encourage questions and view seeking guidance as a strength. “It takes a certain level of vulnerability to approach your manager or mentor and tell them that you don’t quite understand what’s going on,” Joshua admitted. “That will only benefit you in the long run.”

At Sorren, we meet vulnerability with support and encouragement. Mentorship is central to our program, woven into daily interactions through one-on-one guidance, team lunches, and casual conversations. This supportive structure makes professional development feel like a natural and collaborative process, empowering interns to take ownership of their learning journey without fear of failure.

Building a Culture of Connection

When we ask former interns why they chose to build their careers at Sorren, the answer often comes down to one word: connection. We have cultivated a workplace that extends beyond project deadlines and client meetings. It’s a community. “There have been times, like in the summer, when we’ll jump into the water from the bridge that’s just down the street,” Joshua said. “It’s those things that keep the company culture up around here—and there’s always a happy hour not too far away to look forward to.” Karsyn described the atmosphere simply: “Fun and energetic. Everyone comes in with a positive attitude. There are plenty of activities outside of work—playing pickleball weekly is just fun. It’s a good place to be.” This balance of dedicated work and genuine camaraderie is what makes our team strong and our workplace a place where people want to stay.

Your Path Forward Starts Here

Our former interns share straightforward advice: embrace the learning process and get involved from the start. “Be comfortable with being uncomfortable,” Joshua advised. “It’s completely normal not to know things.” Karsyn added, “Get to know everybody and take advantage of all the events. It becomes easier to ask questions if you have a relationship with your higher-ups.” When asked to summarize her experience, Karsyn offered three words: growth, learning, and encouraging. These words perfectly capture the essence of what we strive to provide every intern who walks through our doors. Our program doesn’t just build a strong résumé—it helps you find a professional home where you feel supported, challenged, and valued. At Sorren, we don’t just start careers—we carefully cultivate them.
